Sinus tarsi syndrome

The sinus tarsi is a small tunnel which sits between the two bones underneath the ankle joint. As the foot moves during walking, the gap in this tunnel increases and decreases in size. Excessive lowering of the arch of the foot (pronation) causes the tunnel to decrease and can cause compression. This is termed sinus tarsi syndrome.
